College Visits and College Selection

College Visits:

In order to have meaningful college visits, the prerequisite is to have a good understanding of the subject of interest of the student. As colleges have different rankings in different majors.

Once you have an idea of major, I suggest to pick colleges to visit in 3 categories:

  1. Colleges that are difficult to get into

  2. Colleges that are high probability of getting into

  3. Colleges that you are 100% confident that you will get into

College Selection:

Once you have identified a few colleges, assuming you get admission into all your preferred colleges, the next is a nice problem to have – Which college to go to? In order to make a data-driven decision, I created a decision matrix for myself where I identified the parameters, assigned weightage to each parameter and finally provided a rank to each of the parameter. This gives a final score.

Find below the comparison between 4 colleges. As you can see, College 3 scores the highest. Assuming you get admission in all 4 colleges, you can pick up college 3 based on this decision matrix.
