Avoid laptop/cell phone usage 1 hour before sleep

This is one of the simplest thing one can do, but it is not easy! Exposing your eyes to the blue light that comes from screens leads to disturbed sleep. Blue light disrupts the production of melatonin, a hormone that regulates the body's sleep cycle. Not only will this result in more sleepless nights and fatigue, but can also lead to a variety of health problems including heart disease, weight gain, depression, and anxiety.


Keeping your cell phone next to your bed is not recommended as it leads to temptation to whats happening in emails/social media and we all know how addictive this can be. Many people think "responding to office emails late at night" is a good reflection of their dedication. I have done that myself for many years. Trust me – It is not worth it.


Instead of doing this, I suggest one of the following:


  1. Read a book – Preferably something that generates positive thoughts.

  2. Listen to soft music and walk.


Walking for 30 mins just before sleeping has many benefits. I have personally experienced the positive impact.


TIP: Try to avoid using your cell phone for alarm. This requires you to have your phone within reach to turn of the alarm. But you will end up using the phone much more than turning off the alarm 😊
