Practice humility

Many times human beings think too much of themselves. Feelings like below are common, especially when a person achieves something better than others:

  1. "I am very smart and it is because of my capabilities I have achieved something great"

  2. "I am superior to others"

  3. "I have so many qualifications from top universities in the world"

  4. "I am responsible for the immense wealth I have accumulated"

  5. "I am much more beautiful/handsome than others"

  6. ….

Dr B.M. Hegde says "I" leads to Illness and "WE" leads to wellness.

It is very important to understand this fact – You can lose everything you have in a jiffy and all your accomplishments, wealth, beauty, clout can do nothing to help you. Imagine one of the following scenarios:

  1. A rich person meets with an accident for no mistake of his. All his family dies and he is left in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.

  2. A very famous and beautiful actress contracts a rare incurable virus that deforms her face.

  3. An unforeseen market condition causes a Fortune 500 company to go bankrupt for no mistake of the company.

I will sound like a broken record, but please spend a few moments thinking – Could the person in any of the above scenarios have done anything to avoid the situation? The simple answer is NO.

Bottom-line : Whatever we have is due to god's grace. God can take away what you have anytime. Be grateful to God for providing you with so much. Even if you do not believe in God, I hope it is obvious that one cannot control his/her destiny 100%.

Hence, a very important quality to develop is Humility. Teach it to your friends, family and children. Realize that you are blessed to have whatever you consider as success. There are many people who do not have what you have. Please be kind to them. Try to help as many people as you can and last but not least, please do not look at others as lower than you.
