Thinking Man on Couch

Stop worrying about what others think about you

A perfect recipe for life long misery is worrying about what others think of you and, a best way to exponentially increase the misery is to have a goal that "everyone should think good about you".

I think one simple statement will settle this debate. When Lord Krishna (Hinduism), Jesus Christ (Christianity) and Mohamad Prophet (Islam) could not ensure everyone is happy with them during their lifetime, are you any better than them?

Translating above statement to simpler English – It is a fact that no human being can ever ensure that every other human being is happy about him/her.

I have seen many people, including myself, struggling very hard to maintain a good image among all key stakeholders in one's life. One fine day, you will be faced with the reality that there is someone very close to you who is unhappy with you. To make it worse, this person doesn’t tell you about his/her feelings, rather he/she forms a group of people who are not happy with you and talk about you behind your back. Another fine day you will come to know what this group is taking about you. That will be the day when a typical person sets himself/herself on a path of self-destruction. Either you go into a depression sequence OR you start confronting each person in this group. Both these actions have just negative consequences and after lots and lots of effort, there is no change on perception about you. Most likely it would have become worse than before you started on this spiral destructive journey.

So, what to do? Simple - Just stop worrying about what others think about you. Deep in your heart, you know whether what you did/doing is correct or wrong. You can lie/cheat anyone but you. Your conscious is the perfect judge. If you are confident that you did the right thing, that’s the end of it. It doesn’t matter what others think.  If you can achieve this mental state, your life will be like the smell of fresh jasmine on a spring breeze. Now the ball is in your court!
