Take responsibility for your situation. Do not blame others and take control of your life
This learning focuses on avoiding self-pity and feeling miserable. You are as strong as you think you are. You might have heard stories of many great people who have overcome severe odds to accomplish great success. The primary reason for their accomplishment is their self-drive for success. They could have easily succumbed to situations and treat themselves as victims. However, they took the more challenging path.

There will be many reasons you can come up with to get into the self-pity mode. Below are a few examples:
"My parents never supported me in what I wanted to do"
"One of my parent used to physically abuse me and that left me traumatized"
"I was not given a fair chance for college team selection as the coach was biased to someone else who was not deserving, but the coach liked him/her"
"My family does not understand what makes me happy"
"I have to only give and keep giving and sacrificing for my family, but no one reciprocates"
"My manager does not get me the needed visibility for all the hard work I do"
And so on...

As you can see, these are all genuine problems and you can easily convince yourself that you are a victim, get solace in accepting your fate and end up accepting whatever happens.

However, this doesn’t lead to happiness and a feeling of self-worth. You need to ask yourself, what is it that I can do to correct the situation. For example, if you take #6 above, below are a few of the many options available:
Talk to your manager to see if you are missing something. At least make sure he/she understands your perspective and give him/her an opportunity to fix the situation.
Talk to your manager's manager and seek help.
Look for a different position and move to a different team that recognizes talent.
Leave the company and find a new organization and make a fresh start..

At the end of the day, believe in the fact that you are what you are because of your actions. External factors do have an impact, but you have the ability to overcome them provided you have the will.
