The solution to your misery is not outside, but inside you
Let me start with an example that was shared by Sadhguru. John promised his wife that he will not excessively drink alcohol. One day after work he goes to a bar with the intent of having 1 drink. But as you can guess, he ends up having quite a few drinks and ends up staying at the bar till 2:30 AM. At that point he decides to go home and on his way falls on thorny bushes. Finally somehow he reaches home and goes to the bathroom and realizes his face has many scratches and cuts from the fall on the thorny bushes. He applies band-aid and goes to bed. Next day morning his wife is very mad at him. The reason is – He applied band-aid to the mirror and not his face.

How is that example relevant to this topic? It is a good analogy to this topic stating that if you are feeling miserable, you need to fix the inside and not the outside. You need to fix yourself and not expect something/someone outside needs to be fixed for you to feel less miserable.

Do not hold others/situations responsible for your pain. You have the ability and are capable on making your life better. A few examples below:
If you have high cholesterol, you need to work on reducing it by controlling your diet and engaging in physical activities.
If you are not getting good grades and you feel miserable, you need to work hard to improve your grades.
If you are feeling bad because someone did not meet your expectation, then you need to stop having expectations from others.

As you can start to see, the solution that is in my control is in what "I can do" and not on what "others can do".
